About

Colour Mad is a semi-blog, half-portfolio by a web & graphic designer and part-time blogger named Camille. Well, at least that’s what I wish everyone would call me.

I am who am

I’m currently a fine arts student majoring in Information Design from the University of the Ateneo. Last semester I studied at the National University of Singapore, where I took some Communications and New Media modules, but mostly I went on adventures.

My interests range from many books and novels, poetry, films (especially French movies), production design, museums and art, graphic design, pretty things, shiny things, to dinosaurs, necklaces, dresses, chocolate, cheesecake, to kites, music, and snail mail.

I love taking pictures. I take pictures of almost everything but especially of people and places. I own a Canon Powershot S90, which replaced my IXUS 110 IS after I spilled water all over, around, and above it. A point-and-shoot is like my other half–I almost never leave without it. I love documenting the things I do and the people I enjoy hanging out with, and while I wish I were better at photography, I won’t fool people into thinking I am a photographer — something that most people think they’re entitled to if they have an SLR.

I think I’m developing a case of wanderlust because having gone abroad made me want to travel again, and again, and again. Given I had the fortune to burn, of course. I want to tour Europe one day after (1) I’ve visited all the friends I’ve met in Singapore at their respective countries and (2) after I’ve visited my cousin in Ohio, USA.

The layout

The current version (version three!) of this blog is coded in HTML 5 and CSS 3. I’ve used my domain to study/test these codes so it may not work perfectly in outdated browsers.

If They Come in the Night is the title of Marge Piercy’s poem:

Long ago on a night of danger and vigil
a friend said, why are you happy?
He explained (we lay together
on a cold hard floor) what prison
meant because he had done
time, and I talked of the death
of friends. Why are you happy
then, he asked, close to
angry.

I said, I like my life. If I
have to give it back, if they
take it from me, let me
not feel I wasted any, let me
not feel I forgot to love anyone
I meant to love, that I forgot
to give what I held in my hands,
that I forgot to do some little
piece of the work that wanted
to come through.

Sun and moonshine, starshine,
the muted light off the waters
of the bay at night, the white
light of the fog stealing in,
the first spears of morning
touching a face
I love. We all lose
everything. We lose
ourselves. We are lost.

Only what we manage to do
lasts, what love sculpts from us;
but what I count, my rubies, my
children, are those moments
wide open when I know clearly
who I am, who you are, what we
do, a marigold, an oakleaf, a meteor,
with all my senses hungry and filled
at once like a pitcher with light.
